During my time in Scotland where I was classically trained at Edinburgh College of Art – with murals as my speciality – I discovered the beauty of traditional Scottish painted ceilings . Despite them being hundreds of years old, their vibrancy and intricacy captivated me and I have become passionate about reinterpreting them as a genre ever since and have become a recognised expert in the field. I have been commissioned to create painted ceilings in a number of Scottish castles including Fa'side Castle and Castle of Park and Historic Scotland asked me to create a trompe l'oeil oak panelled ceiling for the Queen's Hall in Stirling Castle. Keeping it classical or adding a contemporary quirk is all part of the fun – I can even paint your likeness into a design. I have painted ceilings on site but can also create panels off site for installation later. And, no, I don't paint them lying on my back!
Murals can transform a plain wall into a statement and I have worked with spas, bars, hotels, nightclubs and nurseries to create artworks which convey the right tone and ambience for the people using that space – from vibrant celtic art in Irish watering holes, soothing classical scenes in Stobo Castle's luxurious spa to joyful, exuberant pieces to keep the younger patients' spirits up in John Radcliffe hospital. I pride myself on being versatile and love a challenge so whether it's Roman, mythical, Oriental or just pure fantasy, I can create a mural that's right for you. Just get in touch to start the conversation.
I'm just as happy working from home – creating artwork that can be transported and installed elsewhere – as I am packing up my paint and brushes and visiting you on site either in your home customising furniture (yes, even a toilet seat) or within your business. Climbing scaffolding and dodging the rain clouds to create an Egyptian-themed mural on the brick exterior walls of the Mills Multon building in Edinburgh was great fun.
You can get a taste of the variety of my work here and when you're ready to have a chat about how I can add a splash of colour to your life, just pick up the phone or drop me an email, I'd love to hear from you.
